Inspired by the Seabiscuit blog, I've decided to try starting up again. Not sure what my topics will be since there's not as much StarBar action as there used to be...
I will come up with something.
TheStarBar
Musings about life and work while I'm not at work. Creating an application to track football squares for football on Monday Nights is hard work... I'm the lead Android developer at StarBarApps and this blog is for recording musings while on break from my day job and my night job.

TheStarBar is going again
Started this in 2005. Took a few years off looking for another StarBar to hang out. Actually found one a few years ago but didn't get to posting until now.
So this is where I post general thoughts and stuff that isn't directly associated with the Android application developement I do under the StarBarApps umbrella.
More later.

Blog Forgive Me...
Well, this is bad. Blog forgive me for I have been remiss in my attentions. It has been more than two weeks since my last post. I have not been on any trips and my network connectivity at home is just fine. No excuses, just bad blogging.
Well, I'm back, let's see if we can get this back in gear.
We had big news at the StarBar in the last couple of weeks. Another notorious / famous presence at the bar. (I call this place the StarBar because I have met a famous actor from movies and TV and the real Santa Claus as well.) We really haven't had any sitings of famous people for awhile, just us regulars, but I still call it the StarBar because it's easier to say than the real name of the bar.
Well, it turns out we have had one of our regulars hit the notoriety department - Bahama Man. He has some alleged issues about some alleged illegal things and it made the Post a couple of times in the last couple of weeks. Some of his past associates have even been featured on a daytime show. Hopefully all the alleged stuff is really alledged but I'm thinking the notoriety may be too much and we won't see our friend again, some of it depends on the judicial system but I also guess he may not like living around here so much anymore. We'll see how it all plays out, I guess. I miss visiting with him.
My big news from the StarBar is that I actually got to have Santa come visit over the weekend and meet many of my friends and their kids. The kids had a blast! It was a personal visit with Santa that will not be forgotten anytime soon. I think the adults had almost as much fun as the kids. It's really great to never grow up.
Best go for now.
Holidays coming, stay young, enjoy the good things in life and don't let the annoying things get the best of you -- there are too many good things.

Catching Up
Well, I missed a couple of days at the virtual StarBar.
Last night was my Friday, even though it was Thursday. I stopped in at the real StarBar to unwind from the week. For some reason, work really bugged me this week and I needed an hour just to sit at the bar, listen to my friends talk, watch Seinfeld, Simpsons, and a variety of sports news. After an hour of unwinding I was able to return to the conversation and participate. Not sure what got into me at work this week but most of the idiots and idiot-things that I can normally take in stride just got my goat. The sense of futility each day was somewhat overwhelming. My buds at work could tell but for the most part, the "others" could not.
Thursday is a good night at the StarBar. The regular bartender is awesome on Thursdays. She brings in a good crowd, handles the mele' with ease, and has a wit and attitude that make it entertaining as well. TechGuy was there so I had a visit with him which is always good too. ZenGuy was there too. He's quite a character.
I met ZenGuy one Sunday afternoon about 6 months ago. As it turned out, I was the only other patron at the time so I got the full story. Car accident years ago and he had to re-learn all of his language skills. It also changed his whole attitude about life in general, thus the zen. At one point in the hours-long soliloque (sp) he explained to me how we were both atomically connected - not really where I wanted to be. And then he recited his published Haiku work... (there is lots of it and some of them are many stanzas long) The challenge that day was to stay longer than he did so I could successfully enjoy a few restful minutes at my favorite bar - this I accomplished but it was not a task for the feint of heart or unconditioned drinker. I try to sit far away from him nowadays. Nice guy, great intentions, hurts the ears after awhile.

Pool Night
Wednesday is the night we settle the weekly football pool. No money 'cause we really can't gamble in the establishment. It's all pride but we show up on Wednesdays to pay up. Bahama Man won this week. Not sure how many he missed but he was better than everybody else; guess that's the nature of winning.
Major Soldier was there tonight too. He comes in from his long hours in the five-sided-building and gets some food and friendship. We had a great talk about his upcoming change in jobs and some stuff with his mom (not for sharing). This guy is one of most genuine guys I've met in a very long time. He's had time at Ft H which is fun to talk about because I love that part of the country and have been there myself, if just for a short 2 week TDY and one long wedding weekend (not mine but a fun party totally not associated with StarBar so it will not be covered here).
To keep tabs, the character descriptions that are owed for development are: Bahama Man, Major Soldier, BarMan, TechGuy, and a host of other regulars and irregulars.
More to come...

TechGuy hears about the StarBar blog
Hung out with TechGuy tonight. We drank a few and talked about the new StarBar blog. TechGuy complained about work which is okay because I'm a kinda TechGirl but not so techie as TechGuy. I can still relate to his experiences tho. We pretty much closed the bar.
Well... The bar was closed but BigD, the barman was turning up the lights which meant it was time to leave even if it was still raining. We did manage to order one extra round based on the downpour and by the time we were leaving the rain had toned downed to steady, heavy drizzle rather than a downpour. More info on BigD and TechGuy on future posts. I still owe on topics such as how the StarBar became the StarBar, about the StarBar in general, the folks at the StarBar, the music at the StarBar etc....
BTW, the StarBar closes at 9:00pm so it's not like I'm staying up past my bedtime.

The StarBar
The Star Bar is a hangout, literally and figuratively. If anything interesting ever happens at the real Star Bar, I'll post it here. The figurative Star Bar is right here, if anything interesting ever happens....
My future posts will describe the Star Bars.
